Employee Spotlight – Paula Lawrence

Paula Lawrence may have less than a year with Bourne’s Energy, but she’s made a big impression here already! As our latest employee of the month, Paula says she is just loving her role in customer service, saying it allows her to wear many hats and work closely with our customers, both in the office and over the phone. She likes that Bourne’s has local offices where customers can connect with them in person, and we can see the things that are important to them. “For instance, every year Bourne’s Energy designs these wall calendars with photos our employees have taken, and for whatever reason, these calendars are really popular and important to our customers. Customers start coming in in November, asking when the calendar will be released! It’s fun to connect over these things.”

One of the best aspects of being a customer service rep is the actual team. “I’ve worked with several companies, and the Bourne’s Energy team is the best team I’ve ever worked with! We’re supportive, collaborative, and encouraging of each other. I feel empowered here, and that makes me so eager to support my teammates.”

“When interviewing here, it felt really clear that Bournes was not only customer-centric but also employee-centric and employee-positive. It’s one of the best parts of this company. I love my job, and in customer service, that sentiment can be hard to maintain, but I really feel a big part of that is Bourne’s itself. I feel they really do value their customers, but also their employees. That mentality bleeds through the company in the best way.”

When we asked Paula one thing she’d really like the community to know about her role at Bourne’s Energy, her answer was that her team is really eager to help. “We really want our customers to have the best price, the best service, and we want them to feel heard. All our teammates, when we answer the phone, are ready to help the caller.”

Outside of work, Paula is an avid reader and an active member of her book club. She reads all genres and loves to read books that have been turned into movies. She also enjoys traveling and was lucky to have previously worked for a company that had her travel a fair amount. She said she loves going to a city and finding the local restaurants to try, and then exploring the local history.

Paula is also a Reiki master and really into energy work and holistic wellness. She says that a really good example of how great a company Bourne’s is, and how employee-centric the management team is, is how they responded upon learning about this skill and interest. Paula says that after a particularly tough week in the dead of winter, she offered to hold a short meditation session for the customer service team. When management learned about this, they not only supported that effort but asked her if she’d consider offering a meditation and relaxation session for everyone! She now holds two 30-minute virtual meditation and relaxation sessions a week during the workday for all employees.

We’re so lucky to have you in the Bourne’s Energy family, Paula! Congratulations on being named Employee of the Month. Keep up the great work, and thank you for bringing calm and stillness to our team. We appreciate you!
