Debbie Edwards is celebrating her 17th anniversary with Bourne’s Energy today! Debbie started in field dispatch 17 years ago and is now a Customer Service Lead, where she oversees the team that onboards new customers, handles customer inquiries, ensures customer billing is correct, and generally ensures that people get the service they expect. She possesses a wealth of knowledge for all things Bourne’s Energy, and we’re so proud to have her on our team.
Our Marketing Director recently talked to Debbie about her upcoming anniversary and the evolution of things here at Bourne’s Energy.
April: Tell us a little about your background.
Debbie: Well, I’ve always lived in Vermont, in Lamoille County, in fact. I’m coming up on my 25th wedding anniversary with my husband, and before coming to work at Bourne’s I worked in the ski industry. When not at work, I’m usually playing chauffeur to the grandson we’re raising, or wrangling our ‘all kinds of crazy’ dog named Lucy. She’s a black lab, retriever mix…. and she really is crazy! We also have two other grandsons and a granddaughter. If any time is left over, I enjoy sewing and photography.
April: You’re celebrating 17 years with Bourne’s Energy. That’s pretty great! Tell us a little about the changes you see between then and now.
Debbie: Well, when I started, we only had about eight delivery drivers and technicians and maybe thirty employees. Today, we have over one hundred! Everything was done by paper tickets that were sorted by hand back then, too. Thankfully, now information is at your fingertips. I can go into the system when a customer calls or comes in and see what’s going on with their account, in real-time. Everything is quick and so much more efficient.
April: What do you like best about Bournes as a company?
Debbie: Definitely the sense of family. Everyone can see and feel the efforts to keep that work-family atmosphere here. I love that we all support each other, and it means a lot that the company is so invested in helping the community, too. Things like our collaboration with the Cancer Patient Support Foundation really mean a lot as an employee. It feels good to be a part of that, you know?
April: What’s your favorite part of your role or a day here at Bourne’s?
Debbie: Working with customers. Many have been around longer than I have, and it’s great to interact with everyone. We really have a lot of loyal customers!
She went on to tell me that she’s really gotten to know many customers personally and even has a dear woman in her 70s who often makes trips to the office and asks to see her.
April: Ok, I know I need to let you get back to things. Let’s do a rapid fire.
3 questions in 30 seconds or less:
Favorite movie: I don’t have much time for those!
Favorite holiday: Fourth of July
How you spend most of your work day: Answering questions! 😉
We’d like to take a moment to acknowledge that when Debbie says she spends most of her day answering questions, she doesn’t just mean customer questions. She knows so many things that we ALL consider her a resource, and it’s just one of many things that make us appreciate her and her 17 years of service here at Bourne’s.
Debbie, thank you for taking the time to tell us a little bit more about yourself and your work. I think I speak for all of us in expressing our gratitude for your loyalty and contributions that made Bourne’s into the company it is today. Happy Anniversary! Thank you for all you do, and cheers to a long and fulfilling career with your Bourne’s Energy work family. 💚
