Today we put the employee spotlight on our Employee of the Month – Chris Descheneau. Chris has been with Bourne’s Energy for six years. He’s had several roles with us over the years. He started as a delivery driver, then spent some time in dispatch. He’s also done some tank setting, service work, and meter reading. Chris is back in a truck as a propane delivery driver and has recently been promoted to a Lead Delivery Driver. Congrats Chris!
Chris has driven trucks for almost thirty years overall, and when asked what he likes most about Bourne’s Energy as a company, and what keeps him with Bourne’s Energy, his answer was the family atmosphere and the fact that management listens and always works with us through any challenges. He said the employees are close and there’s lots of laughing and joking among the team. “It’s a really friendly work environment, and that makes it easier to get moving each day.”
Being a delivery driver is not for the faint of heart. Dragging hoses through snow on slippery driveways, needing to chain tires, and get up and down from the truck over and over in freezing weather is challenging. When asked what we all can do to make their work easier, he quickly replied, “Keep your road and driveway plowed, and a path clear to your tank and fill pipe.” Chris explained that people often forget or don’t know that a fuel delivery truck is 2-3 feet wider than your average vehicle. Often, people will plow or shovel just enough for their car to get through, but that’s not enough space for a delivery truck, especially when we need to turn around. The harder it is for us to get to your home or tank, the longer it takes us to move through deliveries, and the fewer homes we can reach on a cold day. No one wants to be without heat, and the last thing we want is to be unable to get to someone. It has a significant impact on our efficiency when we can reach homes and tanks easily.
Chris said that come summer, things slow down a bit, and drivers all look forward to that reward! Chris said he spends lots of time with family in the summer and that they are working towards some travel adventures. His 30th wedding anniversary is next year, and they’d love to go somewhere special! We can’t wait to hear where you end up, Chris.
